“Books for Kids” launches in Moncton
With a mandate to make a significant
impact on children's literacy levels in his community,
Pierre Battah, Robertson Surrette Partner responsible
for New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island operations,
has chosen to throw both his personal and professional
support behind the Northrop Frye Literary Festival this
coming April and bring his firms "Books for Kids"
initiative to Moncton.
Under Battah's leadership, Robertson
Surrette has assumed the role of presenting sponsor
for the inaugural children's festival as part of the
broader event. "Kidsfest", taking place April
23rd at Global Festival Place in the Moncton Market,
will showcase readings by several well-known regional
children's authors, while providing an opportunity for
children to write their own poems, make crafts, participate
in a book swap and much more. Participating authors
include: Sheree Fitch, Michele Marineau, Shirley Bear,
Sylvie Roberge, Annie Michaud, Genn Murray, Michel Noel
and Gilbert Sewell.
Mr. Battah is also helping to spread
the news about the festival as a keynote speaker at
an upcoming Human Resources Association of New Brunswick
(HRANB) meeting on March 15th. His topic entitled: Master
Networkers Share Secrets will shed light on the practices
of some of Greater Moncton's master networkers. The
session will also take a page from the latest networking
trend..."speed networking", a distant relative
of the new speed dating craze. This new technique is
expected to help make new contacts and turn them into
lasting, profitable business relationships.
Robertson Surrette has been a longtime
supporter of "Books for Kids" in the region
and across the country. Battah is extremely excited
about bringing this initiative to Moncton and is encouraging
all attendees to the March 15th meeting to bring a children's
book (new or used, french or english) which will in
turn be donated to the pediatric units of the Moncton
Hospital and/or the Hôpital Dr. Georges L. Dumont.
Those who contribute a book will have
a chance to win prizes and an invitation to an upcoming
and exclusive reception which promises to be an excellent
networking opportunity.
We hope you can join us. Please confirm
your attendance to Cynthia Brooks at brookscd@mapleleaf.ca.
The fee for the meeting is $15.00 for members and $20.00
for non-members.
If you cannot attend the meeting but
would like to donate books for kids, please call our
office at 506.855.8169 and we will make arrangements
to pick them up.
